Encouragement to Start the Year the Right Way

Weekly Digest - Fri, 19 Jan, 2018

As we all have been granted the grace of God into the Year 2018, a spiritual encouragement comes to us today by the mercies of God that individually we start in the right way loving and serving Jesus Christ from our heart. This message is particularly addressed to all of us who believe and claim that indeed we know Him as Savior and Lord, thus have become His disciples. We all know that a disciple is not greater than the Master and that the good disciple obeys the instructions of the Master. I feel the strong urge of the Holy Spirit inside me, who lives inside us all also to passionately appeal to us to faithfully, humbly and lovingly seek the Lord Jesus more than ever before this New Year. Please let us stop all negative utterances and attitudes that do not advance the cause of Christ through Christ’s church and our church called AEBC. Every true believer in Christ is cautioned thus; “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. In your anger do not sin . . . He who has been stealing must steal no longer. . . Do not let any unwholesome talk come from your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs…” (Ephesians 4:25-29)

As true believers and disciples of Christ Jesus, we have been transformed from the old nature of majoring in sin to newness of life rooted in truth, righteousness and love. We are thus encouraged: “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind . . . Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good” (Romans 12:2,9).

It is my prayer and admonition that God will help each one of us to be faithful to Him as His true children and Jesus’ real disciples in 2018.                                                                                                                                                                Dr. Johnson Omoni
