God’s Promises and His Children’s Premises and Process

Weekly Digest - Fri, 12 Jan, 2018

We are beginning the year by clearly stating that it is always the desire and will of God to let His children enjoy the fulfilment of His promises. There are well over 8,000 listed promises of God for His people in the Holy Scriptures. While God’s grace, unmerited favor saved us at conversion by the power of His Holy Spirit, and becoming a new nature, we are to now henceforth to live the righteousness of God (John 16:7-11, Ephesians 2:8-10, 2 Corin 5:17). Being God’s children brings us into a new boundary and distinctiveness of increasingly living and displaying the nature and character of God in Christ Jesus. It is within this arena and holy boundary that we can best experience the good and rich promises of God. That is what the Bible wants us to see as the premise and process of activating and enjoying and realistically witnessing the fulfilment of God’s promises in our life. We all, in our right mind disseminating the truth of God’s word, know that God’s promises are for God’s children whose heart stays on God and not the ungodly and disobedient who live to please themselves. Of course occasionally God can choose to bestow His gracious promises and glory on anyone at any point in life, but that is not the general way He works in the affair of humanity (Exodus 33:19; Romans 9:15 ).

Our God is holy and desires us to be holy like Him (1 Peter1:16). It does not mean that we are working to obtain/receive God’s promises but rather we are being like God and Christ Jesus to enjoy our fellowship with the triune God. It is my earnest prayer and encouragement that all of us at AEBC will intentionally commit to a life of pleasing the Lord Jesus Christ in 2018 so we might be increasingly lifted up to higher ground enjoying His presence and rich promises in our daily life.                                                                                                     Dr. Johnson Omoni
