Preparing Our Heart for Revival

In a column titled, “Got Questions? Org” the word Revival refers to a spiritual re-awakening from a state of dormancy or stagnation in the life of a believer. It encompasses the resurfacing of a love for God, an appreciation for God’s holiness, a passion for His word and His church, a convicting awareness of personal and corporate sin, a spirit of humility, and a desire for repentance and growth in righteousness. This is really loaded. We can therefore perhaps conclude why Apostle Paul poses a pointed question to the Corinthians church and every believer, “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you – unless indeed you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Periodically, every one of us in Christ ought to have a time when we take a stock of our spiritual inventory. Ideally, I recommend a daily exercise of Revival in our relationship with Jesus Christ and our interpersonal relationships If we are continually sensitive to the Holy Spirit inside us, this task would be easy each time we have on unholy/impure thought that comes out in our utterance or behavior. This should be so because the word of God says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45) Because we live in a fast paced world, we can easily transgress and violate our Christian principles and if unchecked from a period of time we may become target of Satan. As we prepare for our Fall Revival that begins next Sunday, I pray that each one of us starts being sensitive to what is going on in our life as God’s children. If we truly allow the search light of the Holy Spirit, every one of us would find a reason for genuine Revival resulting in repentance toward Holy living.     – Dr. Johnson Omoni
