The Role of God's Word in Building Our Faith

Weekly Digest - Wed, 27 Feb, 2019

Each time the word "Faith" comes to my mind and head, I automatically think of God's grace that makes faith possible opening my inner eyes to know and experience its reality. The biblical definition of Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). For nearly all of us with our scientific mind, it is difficult to embrace that concept, but it works because we can see the result as proven by verse 6. "Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him". If the grace of God helps us to develop the concept of faith in Him, by conviction of the Holy Spirit (John 16:8-11), how do we grow that faith into maturity as children of God? The same word of God gives us the clue stating that Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of God (Romans 10:17). It is the word that gives us insight into the mind of God in light of His will, purpose, direction and destiny for our life. You and I know the truth by which we ought to live and order our life through the word of God. Jesus said, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free" (John 8:31-32).The inspired writer of the Book of Hebrews at 4:12 said, "The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart". The word of God is the yardstick by which we know truth from falsehood.

No person of faith, a child of God can truly experience the power of God's abundance, blessings, prosperity and fruitfulness of His glory without being embedded in the word, His word. God's message to Joshua makes this truth distinctively clear when God said, "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success" (Joshua 1:8). Do you want to grow in your Christian faith and experience God's direction and abundance for your life, then, love to meditate daily on His word and live accordingly by the power of the Holy Spirit.                    Dr. Johnson Omoni
