Sometimes, I kind of think what life could be like for those who don’t experience the gracious and powerful love of God that we believers in Him through Christ Jesus have. Such moments usually occur to me when I feel overwhelmed by the joy, peace, grace and mercy of God in my life. I ask myself “Who would I have been? What would have become of me? To whom would I run for solace, direction and resolution when challenges of life come? Where would I have gotten the strength, courage and hope that all would be well in spite of the unpredictability and uncertainties of life? How would I have received the forgiveness of sin and eternal salvation for which I do not merit? Where would I have the boldness and assured security over Satan, demons and death which Christ Jesus had made possible for me? One of my favorite assuring passages of the Bible that strengthens and emboldens me is Romans 8:28, “ And we know that God causes all things to work together for God to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Another one in that Chapter is, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things. . . In all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us” (Romans 8: 31-38). How about Jesus’ assurance as He was departing this world following His resurrection by power of God’s Holy Spirit, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20b).
Christmas Season is particularly such a time that we appreciate the gracious bountiful love of God for humanity when He chose to become human like us for redemptive purpose, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). A life without the love of God is lifeless, bleak, miserable, lack direction, empty, hateful, unfruitful and useless ending up in hell. What an opportuned time you and I have to embrace the unconditional love of God by faith in accomplished work of Jesus Christ If not yet? And what an opportunity to tell and invite others to embrace God’s love! Dr. Johnson Omoni
