Freely You Received, Freely Give

Weekly Digest - Wed, 5 Dec, 2018

It is the December month when the Christendom celebrates the historical, unique and wonderful birth of the only begotten Son of God, who is our Savior and Lord of our life. Jesus is a special Gift of God for the sinful humanity, born out of God’s unconditional love for the salvation of our soul. The Bible makes it clear that no one of us is good or righteous enough to reconcile ourselves back to God because of the sting of sin in our life contrasting to God’s holiness. (Isaiah 64:6),For all of us have become like one who is unclean and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment.Romans 3:10There is none righteous, not even one; there is none who understands, there is none who seeks God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; there is none who does good, there is not even one.” Hence, the word of God concludes that we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “And that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). That is the grace of God that forgives all our sin on admission, confession and genuine repentance. Grace of God is His unmerited favor which He freely bestows to us because of Jesus’ complete sacrifice that atoned for our sin. It  is in light of this biblical truth that Jesus was telling His disciples as He was about to send them out to preach and make other disciples to come into the fold. Matthew 10:7-8,And as you go, preach, saying, The Kingdom of God is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.”

As we begin to commemorate and celebrate Jesus’ birth this season, we must particularly and continually remember the grace of God that saved and redeemed us from the evil and demonstrating consequence of sin and drafted us into God’s eternal kingdom of joyful and peaceful security. Our sinful world is devoid of God’s kind of grace and unconditional love. Freely we have been saved and freely are we to preach by our life and give Jesus’ salvation to people around us and in the world so that they too may hear and benefit from God’s good news for mankind. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believers in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Apostle Paul re-echoes God’s grace thus, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus’ birth in one hand, and on the other hand His cross, death and resurrection are like two sides of same coin that completes God’s eternal purpose of salvation for mankind.
