This November month, we will be focusing on the significance of the Church of Christ as an indispensable tool of Christian authenticity and maturity in the midst of thanksgiving festivities. We had earlier examined the tools of the Holy Scriptures and Prayer Power. Unfortunately, there are some professed believers in the church who somehow think and act as if active church membership and involvement is not that important to their spiritual survival. Such ones don’t take seriously church attendance, Bible study and prayer fellowship as well as the use of their spiritual gifts and resources of time influence and money. It is not surprising that such ones are an easy target for Satan; they also are partly the reason the local church is weak and uninviting to the unbelievers out there.
The active practical involvement of every genuine believer in Christ is a powerful tool to the Church fulfilling her mission enterprise in the world. Jesus, the founder of His church gave the Golden Commission to the whole church rather than a fraction of her constituency thus: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you, and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). It is also noteworthy that everyone of us has a lot to offer without which Church’s power and engagement with productivity will be diminished (1 Corinthians 12: 4-7).
It is in light of this that the inspired writer of the Book of Hebrews indicated and encouraged believers that make up the Church thus: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near” (Hebrew 10:23-25). Yes, the Church of Christ is powerful as we all come together under the leadership of the Holy Spirit faithfully putting our resources to engage the spiritual battle before us. The Church is the solution to the world crises at many levels we are going through in this generation. Dr. Johnson Omoni
