Stepping Up: The Essence of Spiritual Revival

Weekly Digest - Wed, 31 Oct, 2018

Having just concluded another enriching and successful 4-day Revival Services at our church, it is very appropriate to remind ourselves about the real essence of spiritual revival for believers in Christ. The word “Revival” simply means to re-awaken to active life that which is dying and lukewarm, a condition that makes us ineffective in our deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ. The challenge to two of the Seven Churches in the book of Revelation is particularly relevant for us at AEBC. In place of the Church at Ephesus, we can substitute AEBC, the angel said, “I know your deeds and your trial and perseverance and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not , and you found them to be false;. . . But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore, remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first. . . “ (Revelation 2: 2-5). The second Church is that at Sardis (AEBC), “I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God” (Revelation 3:1-2).

We all know ourselves and the Lord Jesus knows us most deeply and intimately where we need to wake up from our spiritual slumber. While we may be presenting ourselves to the world as if we are perfect, the Lord God sees our self-deception and falsehood because He is all knowing God (Psalm 139:1-12). A revival time does not bring any new message to most of us, but only through a different agent and style – we hear the truth of God’s word in teaching and preaching every day. However, the Revival time Is for us to seize the most and opportunity to examine ourselves and amend our ways honest to God for a fresh beginning and continuation authenticating our looking unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our salvation. Each one of us has some areas of our Christian life and obligations where we need to step up and be real serving the Lord Jesus and not our self-interest or other fellow human beings. It is the will of God for everyone at AEBC to make heaven and be crowned with the crown of righteousness when we meet Jesus face to face. I know that we can do more for Christ and His kingdom honoring Him through AEBC. I pray we will step up accordingly and put Satan to shame in our life in Jesus name.
