Some Sustaining Pillars of Christian Marriage

“In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” John 16:33b).

The institution of marriage in our generation continues to face challenges and difficulties that tend to render many in it joyless and unfulfilling against their expectation getting into it.

While every marriage will necessarily go through challenges and difficulties which are parts of human life, for those whose foundation is solidly in Christ, such situations would strengthen the relationship rather than pull it down. (Matthew 7:21-27) Here are some biblical principles that will help to sustain a lasting blissful marriage by the grace of God:

  1. Christian marriage is built on unconditional love, and acceptance of each other patterned after God’s love for sinful humanity (Ephesians 5:21-22,26)
  2. Growing together in their relationship with Christ through daily meditation on God’s word and prayer life, active church membership and a life that witnesses God’s grace and love to each other (Colossians 3:16)
  3. A lifelong commitment to each other with Jesus Christ at the center of relationship.
  4. Communication. Discussing with each other about everything relating to their wellbeing. No secret or hidden agenda, but sharing soul, mind, and body together.
  5. Honesty and Trust that doesn’t live room for suspicion including confession and forgiveness.
  6. Spending quality time together to love, play and engaging interests of one another.
  7. Helping each other to be the best person possible, sharing, encouraging positive affirmation rather judging each other.

Every couple is unique,  and a special creation of God. While we can learn from one another, we shouldn’t make ourselves like someone else. God will definitely bless every couple whose heart stays on Him desiring to know and do His will and glory.                        Dr. Johnson Omoni
