Reliance and Dependence on Holy Spirit: A Must

Weekly Digest - Wed, 9 May, 2018

No one can successfully grow and do well as a believer in Christ without complete Reliance and Dependence on the activating work of the Holy Spirit. Many of us have serious problem being authentic ambassadors for Christ and living a fulfilled life in our world because we live the spiritual life by our human power and wisdom. While Jesus was physically on earth getting close to the Cross, death and eventual resurrection, He emphasized the significance of the Holy Spirit thus:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father. And whatsoever you shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son....And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter (the Holy Spirit), that He may be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholds Him not; neither knows Him: you know Him; for He abides with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:12-17).
Upon His resurrection from the grave before His ascension to heaven, Jesus said to His disciples, “But you shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the world” (Acts1:8).
Yes, what you and I need for a victorious Christian life is the indispensable Holy Spirit. The early Church relied and depended upon Him in good and bad times. And that’s who Apostle Paul strongly depended on for strength and wisdom. You and I and other believers in our generation cannot do less if we want to succeed in our Christian journey and unto Him we ought daily commit ourselves.                 -Dr. Johnson Omoni.
